It’s October! Time for witches and werewolves, ghosts and goblins.
Your social media feed has likely been taken over by Halloween-themed memes, posts recommending the best costumes for the family and polls asking which candy is your favourite.
Here on Shed Happens, we have also been jumping on the spooky bandwagon.
Recently, I have shared posts describing the best Halloween costumes for large dogs as well as some recipes to make your own Halloween dog treats.
However, the Shed Happens community has always been about celebrating ALL pets, not just dogs!
So, that had me digging into another group of the pet loving community.
According to a survey released by the American Pet Products Association, there are approximately 11.5 million households that own freshwater fish, while another 1.6 million are saltwater fish owners.
While these pet owners aren’t dressing up their pets for Halloween, fish owners can celebrate Halloween too!
I have done some digging (and online shopping) for fun, spooky and adorable Halloween-themed decorations to create the perfect spooky fish tank.

I am ALL about skulls – Our whole house is decorated in skulls and Nightmare Before Christmas lol! I am currently looking at setting up a new fish tank (I want a betta in my home office) and I’m scoping out which skulls I want to include lol
The skull looks really cool if you run a smallish bubble stone inside it- bubbles out the eyes. The skull mountain is fun too. I only had a 5 gal tank for a betta but we used both the skull sets to decorate the tanks in the store I used to manage. I wish we’d had the pumpkin house, that would have been fun to design a tank around.
I love that idea with the bubble stone! I’m in the process of getting everything for a betta in my office. It’s also a 5 gal tank. I’m going to have to put this idea to use!
This is so creative Britt, I never would have thought of this! I especially love the skeleton pirate captain and the glow in the dark zombie hands! Those combines with the full moon/bat background would make a fantastically festive fishtank!
Right? Use a black aquarium stone for the bottom with a few glow in the dark stones mixed in – I can picture it!
