Review: Carlson Pet Products Portable Pup Pet Bed
If there is one thing that is true about our ‘pack’, it’s that we are happiest when we are outside. Avid campers, we can often be found visiting our favourite parks as often as possible during the camping season. When we’re not camping, we’re lounging in the back yard, soaking up the sun. Earlier this year we discovered the Carlson Pet Products Portable Pup Pet Bed, purchasing one for each of our pups and I’m super excited to share it with you!

Our pups are an important part of our ‘pack’. When we head out on a camping trip, we have them in mind. This includes not only the essentials but also a little extra comfort. We pack our comfortable lounge chairs and hammocks, why not theirs?
Recently, we were discussing the fact that our girl Daviana is getting a little older. She doesn’t act it (at all) but she’s 12 years old and her hips aren’t quite as fond of laying on the hard ground, especially after a good hike.
This, of course, led to a search online to investigate our options.
We looked at a wide variety of dog beds including orthopedic style mattresses as well as different elevated dog beds. Unfortunately, the space constraints of the Jeep added a little extra challenge. After all, we couldn’t leave our tent or coolers behind to make space for a dog bed!
That’s when we found it…

Compact for Easy Travel
One of the biggest features that we were looking for was a bed that would pack up easily so that it could become part of our go-to camping gear. This bed from Carlson Pet Products is designed similar to the standard camping chair, allowing it to simply fold up and slip into a carry bag.
The good news is that you don’t have to sacrifice space for portability. When the bed is unfolded, it stretches 47” by 24.5”, more than enough space for our dogs to stretch out. With a suggested max weight of 95lbs, it will easily hold most medium to large-sized dogs.
Don’t share your house with a large dog like our two? The company has also created a small dog version measuring 24” by 24”, suitable for dogs up to 45lbs.

Easy Clean
Constructed with the same fabric that you see on a standard camp chair; these beds are easily wiped clean with a wet cloth.
Why is this so important? Consider, for a moment, how many dirty puppy paws are going to make their way onto this bed in a standard camp season. I know that mine don’t tend to stay clean when they have the opportunity (especially if it has been raining and there’s mud to play in)!
Strong and Sturdy
I love our pups, but they aren’t always easy on their gear and this has been no exception! I have watched Indy come running towards the bed, launching himself into the air and landing on it with no shame. The metal frame takes a beating and keeps going!
The only complaint that I have seen online has been in relation to the rivets in the framing over time. While we haven’t experienced it at this point, it has been said by a number of people that the rivets do give out.

However, it’s an easy fix – simply thread the thickest screws that you can fit through the holes that are left from the rivet and hold them in place with locking nuts (shout out to Tracey R on Amazon for this solution).
I also want to add that this is NOT chew resistant. If you’re looking for a bed that you can leave alone with a chewer, there are other manufacturers that create beds specifically marketed as ‘indestructible’ for this purpose.
Great for Home or On the Go
While the bed clearly has a camping-esque appearance, it has a wide variety of uses. This will quickly become your go-to choice for beach days, puppy daycare, kennel stays, camping, hotels and even just relaxing around the yard. What more could you ask for as a pet parent? Right?

Added Comfort for Your Pup
Going back to the original reason that we were searching for an elevated bed – Daviana has now reached the stage that she starts to feel stiffness in her hips after a long hike. This isn’t going to stop her from running, playing and hiking with us (she loves it too much), but we have to take extra steps to make her comfortable afterward. With the elevated hike, she no longer has to make her way down onto the ground.
If you find that your dog isn’t comfortable on the bed as it is, you can also add a padded dog bed on top of the cot. Just watch when your dog is getting onto or off the cot as the bed may slip.
An additional perk of an elevated bed is that it allows for better airflow during warmer weather. This is important if you are camping without access to air conditioning on a hot summer day.

If you’re looking forward to warmer days ahead, why not spoil your pet a little by picking up a Carlson Pet Products Portable Pup Pet Bed?
Available in 2 sizes and a variety of colours, you’re sure to find something to fit your needs and your style!
Is your dog a sunbather, or does he/she prefer to stay cool in the shade? I’d love to hear all about your pup in the comments!
Such a good idea to give your dog an option to be elevated. Makes it a lot easier on aging dogs and like you said, I can imagine it would be more comfortable on a warm day, as well. Love that it’s collapsible and easily transportable, as well.
Yes, the airflow underneath is a great way to help them cooldown on a hotter day.
That bed is so cute and all of puppies or dogs look super comfy!!
They have been LOVING on it! Indy can’t get enough of his new cot!
This folding dog bed is so awesome! I need to pick one up for my pup for when we travel with her. I think it would be perfect for that!
It folds up so small – and it comes with a carry bag just like the ones that are included with the camp chairs. It’s perfect for travel!
I am going to have to show this to my grandma. they love to go camping and heir dog does not like to lay on he ground so this is really a good idea for them to get!
It’s a great investment for campers. We are so impressed with how much space it gives them to stretch out after seeing how small it folds up.
I would absolutely love this for my dog! He really loves the outdoors.
Ours are big outdoor lovers too. That’s why I just HAD TO give it a try!
Such an interesting product. I bet my dogs would love this. Will definitely look to buy one for a tryout.
We have been really impressed with it, especially at that price point.
Aww how cute is this!! Such a lovely bed for a dog to chill out and enjoy xx
It’s been working out well for our two!
Our late dog Spike would have loved this! He was more of an in the shade lounger, when he was tired of running around the yard, so this being strong, easy to clean and portable is amazing! If we get a new dog, I will need to remember this product!
Dav girl becomes a shade lounger as the temperatures rise, but right now I think she’s just enjoying the fact there is sun lol!
Such a cute thought from the manufacturers. When we humans can have the options to relax in the open and lie down when we wish to, why should the cutie dogs be deprived. Great product.
Yes! Now our pups can relax when we’re camping too!
You’re such a mean dog parent! Making your dog seem like she’s alive for a picture.. shame on you! :oP
But seriously, I wish stuff like this had’ve been around when I had pets many many years ago!
Isn’t it great? They have been spending SO much time relaxing on them since we opened the box lol
My husband and I were just having a conversation about our cat getting older too, because he’s having a lot more trouble jumping up onto taller places like our bed now. Typically we pick him up and put him on the bed these days. It’s so heartbreaking because every time we let him in our room, he wants to jump and be normal. He looks so sad that we have to help him. I can only imagine that a bed like this for dogs makes them so much more comfortable too. It sounds like a pretty amazing product.
Yes, we’re at the point that Dav girl needs a little help if she’s been too active during the day because her hips get stiff.
Catchy blog title and cool dog bed! I’m a cat person, but my 4 Savannahs would actually love this too! I’ll share this with my son who just got a new puppy. The price isn’t bad either! Maybe I’ll order one for my new granddog!
We have been SO impressed with the quality for that price point. It has been a great purchase in our house.
That’s is such a great idea of a product! And the little buddy looks like he loves it!
They are both totally in love with their new beds!
Very interesting product, I’m gonna recommend this to my mother-in-law and I’m sure she will love this.
We’ve been loving it here!
Oh wow this portable pup bed is soo cool!! My dog would of loved this, sadly he passed not that long ago but when we get a new pup going to keep this in mind

I’m sorry for your loss. They are such an important part of our lives, aren’t they?
Ugh! I just wrote out a whole comment and something happened and it disappeared!
In any case, I was mentioning how I really like how aware you are of your dog’s needs. That you noticed him walking different after a hike and so you wanted to help him feel more comfortable. (or is it a her? I forget.) I think you must have two of the happiest dogs around!
I also like how you mentioned the cons of this bed but also included a very easy solution regarding the rivets that wear down. That would make me more inclined to purchase this since it seems like an easy fix. I have two small dogs and we are currently fostering another small dog from the humane society during the pandemic (and after if need be) and even though they make a bed for small dogs I can only picture my dogs laying under it. Thanks for such an honest review!
Thank you! She deserves all of the care and love that I can give – Dogs give us EVERYTHING that they have, and they don’t ask for much in return. The least we can do is to take care of the little details like this , right?
Buying a dog bed is one of the most rightful decisions a dog owner can make. Remember that a dog bed is not an ostentatious display of how much money you can waste; real dog parents know better. Unless you don’t consider your canine companion as part of the family, you will never understand the necessity.
That is so true. There are many options out there that are far more expensive, but cost wasn’t the deciding factor for us. It was about the bed that would meet our needs and theirs.
Keep in mind that the best bed for the winter might not be the best bed for the hot summer months. Consider a lighter, more breathable bed for your pet during the summer and a snugger, warmer nest for winter.
Great point! We love the breathability of the bed for the summer months, but we add a warmer pad to it for the winter.
