With everyone spending more time than usual at home, many people have turned to their love of baking for a little extra joy and happiness. After all, there’s something magical about the smell of cookies fresh out of the oven…
My social media feeds have been flooded with pictures of muffins, scones, cookies, cakes and more, and plenty of stories of baking adventures gone wrong (always good for a laugh, keep sharing them)!
As a dog mom, I don’t want to leave the pups out of all the fun. They deserve a little something special too, right?

There is something about peanut butter that seems to appeal to dogs everywhere. I know when we open the pantry door, our pups come running in the hopes of being given a scoop of that delicious, peanutty goodness.
Confession: I also enjoy watching them smacking their chops and licking like crazy trying to get it all out of the roof of their adorable little mouths! Wholesome family entertainment right there…
If your dogs also go wild for the peanut butter jar, I’ve got a treat for you! Today I’m going to share the recipe for our go-to healthy, homemade puppy snacks – Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats.
These treats couldn’t be easier. They take under 30 minutes to make using only 3 ingredients that are already found in most kitchens. Happiness doesn’t always require long, elaborate efforts – often the simplest options are the best!
Better still – if you find yourself tempted throughout this process (or if you have a little one helping with the baking) this recipe is 100% safe for both dogs AND their owners.

Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats
You Will Need:
- 3 medium-sized bananas, the riper the better
- 1 cup of peanut butter
- 3 cups of oat flour
WARNING: When purchasing peanut butter for your dogs it is VERY important to read the ingredients.
Xylitol is a sweetener that can be found in a number of human foods including chewing gum, toothpaste, yogurt and some peanut butters. It is HIGHLY toxic to your pup! Xylitol poisoning has been associated with seizures, liver failure and even death.
If you suspect that your dog has ingested a product containing xylitol, contact your veterinarian IMMEDIATELY!
Now, I know that I made the promise that the ingredients are likely already in your kitchen, but how many people have oat flour? Don’t worry…
If you don’t have oat flour available, you can make it! All you need is old-fashioned rolled oats. Place your rolled oats in a blender and blitz it until it creates a fine powder.
Or you can have it delivered right to your door with Amazon:
Instructions:
#1 – Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet (or two) with parchment paper. This will make it easier to get your dog treats off the pan (as the batter tends to be a little sticky in texture).
#2 – In a large bowl, mash the bananas and peanut butter together until you’ve created a paste.
At this point, I always let the dogs enjoy the process a little by letting them lick the masher… The result? An adorable TikTok video!

#3 – Add your oat flour to the mixture slowly, mixing it in as you go. You want to create a sticky, workable dough. If you notice that it is getting dry and crumbly, simply add peanut butter until you reach the desired consistency.
#4 – At this point, you have two choices. You can roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter (we’ve done that in the past) or if you want to take the even easier route (which I did this time) simply roll the dough into small 1 Tablespoon balls and flatten them on the pan with a fork the way that you would a shortbread cookie.
#5 – Bake your dog treats for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of your cookies, or until they are lightly brown underneath.
And that’s it! Make sure to let your cookies cool off before sharing them with your pup. To store your cookies, place them in the fridge in an airtight container.
They will be good for up to 2 weeks (not that they ever last that long in our house) at which point, if your dogs are like mine, they will be asking you to break out the baking supplies once again. Who can resist those cute puppy dog eyes???

Awww, sweet! This will be another great treat for pups for sure!
They have been LOVING them here!
My brother just got a dog a couple months ago and I’m sure he would LOVE these treats! Making these for him today! And might have to make a version for myself too!
Let me know how it goes. I know our dogs have been going crazy for them.
So great to see a pet owner creating healthy, home made treats for their dogs, they really are being treated like family.

They are spoiled and they deserve it!
Thanks for the recipe. I will either make these tomorrow or as soon as I get bananas. I’m sure the dogs will love them because the licked the heck out of my peanut butter jars today. I guess I probably need more peanut butter also.
The good news is that the picture I shared with that plate full is a single batch – so they should last a little bit! Lol (emphasis on little, especially if they have their say lol)
This looks like a great way to finish off the bananas when the kids won’t eat anymore.
Definitely!
My doggy would love these! I’ll have to check out some of these recipes. I haven’t really been spoiling my dog enough as of late.
I kept seeing everyone baking, but the last thing I need is more baked goods in my life – so puppy baking seems to be the perfect alternative lol
Hey, I actually have oat flour in my pantry. No bananas, so my pup will have to wait unfortunately, but his birthday is coming up, and he will love these! He’s turning 9! (Wow, I hate that! Let’s make it…2. That seems reasonable!)
I hear you! My girl Daviana turned 12 this past February!!! 12!! How does that even happen?
I mean, she still runs around and plays like a pup, so 2 works for me…
This sounds amazing, and we can share?? I can’t get oat flour and always blend my own, works great! It was my little guy’s birthday last Monday and these would have been so nice, he loves PB treats. Thankfully I managed to get to a pet shop to get him some of his favourite snacks but I’m definitely saving this for next time x

I think some people see ingredients like oat flour and immediately worry, especially right now where baking goods are selling out in stores with everyone baking… but blending your own is super simple and the final product is great.
Gonna try to make this for my pupper, thanks Britt!
Let me know how it goes! Ours have been LOVING them!
I love homemade dog treats. My dog loves peanut butter. I’m sure adding the banana would be a win. Thanks.
Ours have been going CRAZY for it, and they are healthy ingredients too!
great article, cute dogs and nice ideas for tasty treats
Thank you!
Love these simple peanut butter banana dog treats! We’ve made them for our dogs several times and they go crazy for them. The only thing is we always make so many that we have to feed them all to them almost right away, otherwise, they spoil.
I made that mistake the first few times. Now I limit how many I make a time so they aren’t little gluttons all the time hahaha
I’ve never tried making my own dog treats but I may give it a go! I think my doggo would thank me for it lol
Some of the recipes are so elaborate, but these were super simple!
We love good dog treats that aren’t full of dyes & other weird things. Can’t wait to try them!
Dav girl is allergic to everything – seriously – she’s on a seafood only diet because she can’t do any other meat-based proteins lol! It has led us to really pay attention to what she’s eating at all times.
How neat! I need to try baking some treats for my little guy. Unfortunately, my son has a peanut allergy so no peanut butter treats. Thank you for including a great list of options. I’ve also found that my dog LOVES pumpkin?! ?
Pumpkin is SO good for them! I actually have a whole post about it (that I need to publish here).
OMG my dogs would absolutely love these – so simple and so straight forward ingredients wise! I love to know exactly what’s in their treats so I’m not giving them anything harmful so I’ll definitely make these! x

My girl has a list of allergies a mile long, so we have always been SUPER picky about ingredients!
My dogs and the pups would love these!
My pups LOVE them and I love the fact that they are so easy lol
Great post! I always make my dogs special treats on their birthdays or when I am just feeling creative. I’ll have to try this.
We do too! I love how excited they get 🙂
I am literally texting this post to a friend right now who just adopted the most adorable dog from a local shelter! I love recipes like this that use ingredients most of us already have on hand, and we know what is going into what we are feeling our furry friends. I don’t have a dog, just a cat, but I’ll be making these for some friends who have dogs.
I am SO picky about what’s in my dog’s food and treats. Dealing with a dog with food allergies really helped to open my eyes about what’s in many of the more common commercial treats on the market!
That is so cool that you can make dog treats out of just 3 ingredients. So simple! I’m definitely sharing this with my friends who are dog moms and dads.
They are SO simple, takes no time at all and our dogs have been going crazy for them!
I am not an animal person but my friend love dogs and have many of them. Passing your post to him!
Thank you!
Excellent value driven article here. Tons of information. Appreciate it.
Thank you!
My dogs gonna love this! Thank you for the recipe!
I’m sure they will! Ours go CRAZY over these!
Nice idea. I was trying to take in a stray dog. I hope this will be great treat for him and he will become a friend 🙂
Helping a stray dog to adjust and trust you can be a process, but a delicious treat can definitely help!
