You’ve likely heard all of the buzz about Amazon Prime Day at some point online, even if you’re not a regular shopper yourself.

This year, more than ever, people are excited for the big online sale.

Why?

The annual sale was postponed from it’s usual July date in light of the coronavirus pandemic and the impact that it has had on Amazon’s warehouses.

With all of the restrictions in place this year, more people are shopping online than ever before.

The result? Amazon’s warehouses were slammed with a higher than usual wave of online orders, resulting in a series of inventory shortages and delivery delays.

However, the company says that it’s now caught up and ready to rock!

A younger adult woman with red hair wearing a yellow sweater is sitting at a white desk with a grey cat in her lap and a laptop computer in front of her, credit card in hand. Beside her, an older woman with white hair, a pink long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans is sitting on the edge of the desk, also looking at the computer, holding her glasses in her hand.

What is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Launched in 2015, Prime Day is a large two-day sale that is said to rival both Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The catch? It is only available to Amazon Prime members.

The sale started, originally, as a one-day celebration of Amazon’s 20th anniversary.

Despite a number of complications and challenges the first year, the company brought it back in 2016 and experienced great success.

Today, Amazon Prime Day 2020 is celebrated with 2 days of great sales as well as a number of ‘early Prime Day deals’ (some of which have already started).

Better still, many larger retailers have also rolled out big deals in an attempt to compete with the online sales giant.

What does this mean for us? Great savings are possible!

What Pet-Related Deals Can I Find on Amazon Prime Day 2020?

We don’t know exactly what deals are going to pop up that day.

However, there are a few tricks to keep in mind that will help you to leverage any sales that do come with this year’s event.

#1 – Save on Pet Food

Pet food is one of the biggest costs associated with pet ownership.

We’ve talked before about different ways that you can save money on pet food and one of the big points that I made was to leverage online sales.

This is your chance!

In previous years, a number of different dog food brands have gone on sale during Amazon Prime Day.

Better still, you could look at scoring a discount dog food subscription service, extending your savings beyond a single purchase!

If your food of choice is available in big box stores, keep an eye on their pricing.

As I previously mentioned, many stores will hold their own sales in an attempt to compete with the Amazon Prime Day 2020 buzz.

This may mean finding your go-to pet food at a much lower price.

#2 – Deals on Electronics

Amazon Prime Day often brings great savings when it comes to the purchase of electronics.

I’m not just talking about laptops and televisions!

There are a number of great products that have our pet’s best interests at heart. This includes rechargeable dog training collars and pet-specific camera systems like Furbo.

#3 – Make A Wish List of High-Value Items

Are there a few products you’ve really wanted to purchase but held off on due to the higher price point?

Some examples that come to mind include larger aquarium set-ups, cat trees and other cat furniture, high-quality rabbit huts and larger pet pen setups.

If so, this may just be your time to buy!

By making a list of the items that you are seriously interested in, you can stay focused as you watch for savings.

This will help you to avoid the ‘shiny’ distractions brought about by other sales

#4 – Support Small Businesses

In an effort to help boost the sales of small business owners, Amazon has launched an incredible deal this year.

Purchase $10 from select small businesses before October 12, 2020 and Amazon will give you a $10 credit to spend on Prime Day.

The best part? There is a whole ‘Pet Supplies’ section included!

This includes many of the products that we, as pet owners, would be purchasing anyway including biodegradable dog poop bags, ear cleaning solution and paw wipes.

#5 – Overwhelmed? Buy A Gift Card and Shop Later!

Last year, we saw some great deals on gift cards for Prime Day.

Amazon offered a $5 promo credit on a $25 Amazon Gift Cards Purchase, while gift cards to an assortment of other retailers also went on sale.

This is a great way to enjoy savings for months to come!

Like your high-ticket items, make a list of the gift cards that you plan on keeping an eye on.

There is no master list of gift cards going on sale, so it’s up to you to do the groundwork.

  1. This was interesting, I never really get Hugo’s things on Amazon other than the odd new outfit. I don’t really think them when it comes to pet supplies. I need to check out some of the deals this time x

    1. I used to think the same way until I started comparing pricing and realized that there were some great savings to be had on there for many of the items we were buying already. I am a big fan of shopping around to find deals lol

  2. Oooh I didn’t realize prime day was coming up! I do love prime, but here in Hawaii the deliver takes a lot longer than the 2 days. But my pup can always use some new heavier duty toys! The ones on island have pretty limited choices and her very favorite toy just wound up on the roof. We bought her new ones but she keeps trying to find the old one… ?‍♀️

    1. Oh no, on the roof? Haha! That sounds like something that would happen in our house… lol
I hope you’re able to snag some great deals on toys that she’ll love!

  3. I have been losing track of Amazon Prime Day! I love all of the pet goodies you can find from that site. I bought some cute accessories in the past. It is great that there are some IOT pet supplies like an automated food dispenser! Thanks for sharing these tips 🙂

    Nancy ✨

  4. That’s great that pet supplies are included in the Amazon Prime Day deals. I didn’t know that. I will have to check that out. Thanks so much for sharing!

  5. Confession here, I do not shop Amazon at all, I prefer to buy from brick and mortar stores in my area and am fortunate to get as a blogger a 10% discount plus free same day delivery which makes my life easier. Plus if there is something I want to try I can get it here and if Layla does not like it I can return it and get credit. I am one of the non Amazon people 🙂 but happy shopping to those that do.

    1. You’re lucky to have that kind of arrangement. I live in a pretty small town, so the selection here is pretty tiny. I do have a pet store I love and trust where we purchase all of their food, but outside of that, online shopping is usually our best opportunity to get our hands on something new.

  6. I can’t wait for Prime Day! I love online shopping and I definitely could use some pet supplies for my cat. Among other things of course. Thanks for reminding me about it!

  7. I really like how Amazon does allow for wish lists as well as donations to 501c3 companies! They have great deals on prime day – and I can’t wait to start shopping (including some of the ones you mentioned)!

    1. It’s set up in a way that makes it really user friendly! I am a huge fan of the wishlist option, and Amazon Smile is an amazing opportunity to make a difference!

  8. Britt, thanks for sharing I have not noticed Prime Day is near by and I love to make purchases online so your article is very helpful.
    Thanks for sharing wonderful article??

  9. As if I need another excuse to shop on Amazon, lol! I’m wondering how the Prime Day numbers this year will compare to past years, though. I think quite a few households are still dealing with financial issues thanks to corona. Maybe the sales will be helpful, though, although I wonder if it will be people more trying to get deals on necessities verses doing early holiday shopping and stuff like that.

    1. That’s a really good question. I think it’s a great opportunity to pick up some of the ‘necessities’ at a discounted price, which may still drive sales.

  10. I admit I’m not a shopper. I rarely buy anything and when I do I try to get things from local business. Dog food in particular–we have a wonderful local pet health food store.

There are some thing I do get from amazon; usually for convenience.

    1. We get our pet food from a local retailer now. In the past, I’ve purchased it online. It depends on where I can get the specific food that Dav girl needs with her allergies. That being said, we have found some great deals on Amazon including the dog’s portable dog beds for camping, some of their favourite toys, etc.

  11. I never shopped on Amazon regularly until COVID happened but this is good to know pet supplies are included. I’m not a prime member but now I’m thinking maybe I should be…hmmm. Thanks for sharing these tips! I’m also a fan of supporting small businesses too.

    1. I wavered on getting Prime membership for quite a while but when we started seeing all the benefits (free shipping, Prime Day sales, etc.) we decided that it was definitely worth it. We saved more on shipping for Christmas last year than we paid out for the year – so that alone made our decision easy.

    1. It’s such a great chance to save on those necessary purchases! We need to stock back up on some of Pippin’s favourite toys – she eventually breaks the feathers off them and with no feathers, she’s not interested any longer lol

  12. Thank you for these great suggestions! I’ve never shopped on Amazon Prime Day before but this post is making me consider making a wish list and seeing what savings come up! xx

  13. I try not to shop Amazon for everything, alas, some things are just much cheaper on there. And that’s their success with monopoly and how they keep making profits no matter the global event.

    1. There is also the convenience factor of home delivery. That’s why I love shopping online (from Amazon and a wide variety of other retailers including businesses of all sizes). Especially right now with all the craziness in the world. If I can avoid going out shopping, I will.

  14. I never thought to be prepared ahead of time so your post is both timely and hugely relevant. I always think Prime Day is a USA thing but, yes, I can help small business wherever they are. It’s what gave me post its impetus – help the small sellers struggling THEY need us most of all.

I am hoping to get the new mini Petcube on Prime day.

    1. I love that they are embracing the idea of helping small business with their one deal right now. Most people don’t consider Amazon as a place that they can support small business because they forget that there are businesses that are choosing to use Amazon as a way to reach new consumers!

  15. Love Amazon, but the Amazon Prime 2 day shipping hasn’t been 2 days for many things. Seems 2 days is more like 7 days lately. We do get our kibble and flea treatment on Amazon and on subscribe and save to get more money off!

    1. I’ve noticed since the whole lockdown situation, shipping has been taking longer. Prior to that, we usually found that our shipping was even shorter than the stated times! I think they are just overwhelmed with the current situation.

  16. I’ll have to check out Amazon Prime Day! There is something specific I’m hoping to buy for my kids’ holiday gift this year and it would be wonderful to get it a lower price!

  17. ‘Tis the eve of the blessed occasion known as Prime Day! I eagerly await the opportunity to get my Creative Cloud membership for $90 (a $30 savings), which I’ve done every year for the last three years, and maybe a new Chromebook for client slideshows and portable writing.

    1. Right? I know that the list of what our pets need is never-ending lol It could be that they are spoiled (okay, I know they are spoiled) but still!

  18. I’ve been hearing of Amazon Prime but I’ve never really looked in to it. The deals look enticing. I’d might have to check it out.

  19. This post is being sent right to my friend who has two dogs so this will be great for her to have a look at x

    1. I hope that she’s able to land some great deals! Last year was really good for us – looking forward to seeing what kind of sales I can score this year!

  20. I’ve only heard of Amazon Prime Day from you. It’s so nice of you to share this good news with everyone! I might just take a look.

    1. It’s definitely worth checking! The way I look at it, what do I have to lose? A few minutes of my time if none of the brands that we use are on sale… But if I do find a sale, it can save us a lot of money.

  21. Just done shopping for Amazon Prime Day! So far was happy with deals on electronics. Was able to score some Echo Dots and a tablet. I haven’t really seen the promotion on gift cards but yes, it’s great to buy a gift card and get a freebie for future use. Thanks for sharing these tips.

  22. Man!!! I can’t believe I missed Amazon Prime day by one day! Our GoldenDoodle Huckleberry would have LOVED that Furbo treat tossing toy! I also saw that they sell doggie life vests. Definitely some great deals going on. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yes, we picked up some new life vests to have on hand. Their current life vests are still in great shape, but I would rather snag some backups on sale and be ready then find myself without and paying big time to get some on short notice!
