Celebrate Halloween 2020 with Adorable Pet Costumes!

Halloween is here and, of course, I am turning to the Shed Happens community to celebrate! What better way to celebrate the spooky season than to share some adorable pet costumes…

Halloween is my favourite time of year!

Nothing brings me more joy than spooky moves, adorable costumes, witches, ghouls, and goblins.

Unfortunately, Halloween is looking a little different this year, with no spooky parties and the cancellation of trick-or-treating altogether in many areas.

But that doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate.

There are a few things that the current global situation can’t take away from us, and the true fun of Halloween is one of them!

This year, we’re going to celebrate right here on Shed Happens with a round up of adorable pet costumes.

I have included pictures of my pack (of course) but also opened the floor for Those who wanted to submit a photo to be included.

Did you miss the cut off to share your photo? Don’t worry!

All day today (October 31st) I am going Halloween crazy over on Instagram.

Upload a photo of your pet showing off their Halloween costume and tag @shedhappensblog to have your photo shared in my stories.

Let’s flood Halloween with spooky, hilarious and adorable pet costumes.

Blogtober Comes to An End

Today also marks another important day here on Shed Happens.

October is coming to an end and with it, I am officially finished with Blogtober!

(If you don’t know what Blogtober is, check out my Blogtober introductory post)

This was a challenge that I decided to take on and did do some advance prep work for but, I’ll admit, I wasn’t nearly as prepared as I should have been!

However, I stuck with it and this marks post #31 in the month of October.

That being said, moving forward, I will be returning to the regular posting schedule here on Shed Happens.

New posts will be published Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The first and third Wednesday of each month will be dedicated to Hump Day Humour, a fun pet-related post where I invite YOU to share your funny pet photos, videos and stories with the community.

After all, who knows the quirks and hilarity of pets better than another pet owner? Right?

Now for the Main Event: The Adorable Pet Costumes…

Enough of the chatter and administrative work, it’s time to get onto the reason you’re all here – the pets!

Each year we take the time to dress up our pets for the season.

We don’t take them trick or treating. Instead, we stage photoshoots in and around the house to share with friends, family and fellow pet lovers like you.

This year, my husband had a hand in choosing the costumes – Specifically, Indy’s costume!

Here are the Halloween 2020 photos of our pack of misfits.

long-haired tortoiseshell cat wearing a bee costume, sitting in a black witches cauldron, next to a lightbox that says Trick or Treat, surrounded by candy
black and brown flat-coated retriever mix wearing a blue superhero mask and cape, laying in a pile of fall leaves

As I previously mentioned, I sent out an invitation to invite any other bloggers or members of the pet community to submit their photos to be included.

The first response that I received came from Jacky.

She is in the process of setting up her blog Jacky Karwathova. However, in the meantime, you can follow her on Instagram!

Here are the adorable photos that she included of her furbabies:

grey and brown tabby cat laying on a cream coloured couch, wearing a monkey costume

Our next adorable submission came from a fellow pet blogger – HollyAnne from Life & Cats.

In her email, she wrote: “Plush as a bat. Easy costume for a cat that wears a harness – it’s basically a harness with wings. It’s felt so it’s light. He was more bothered by the straw I posed him on. A good simple choice for a first costume. I dressed as a witch and we did a costume parade.”

I absolutely LOVE this idea and may just have to make some bat wings for my two next year!

Finally, we have a submission from Maggie at Collar Town, a small business owner creating cute and modern dog collars.

She explained, “Bella was 50 Shades of Grey… Paint samples on her coat lol”

I have to say, I would DIE laughing if I had run into Bella out trick or treating that year! How funny is that?

I want to finish by wishing all of you an incredible Halloween!

This year has been a little wild with its roller coaster of highs and lows – but we’ve made I this far and we’re still holding our heads high.

Focus on the little reasons to smile each and every day, including (obviously) your pets!

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to join the Shed Happens weekly newsletter.

This will give you the opportunity to stay up to date on the latest here on the blog as well as being the first to hear about any giveaways, contests or promotions.

  1. Congrats on successfully completing blogtober Britt! It’s a big accomplishment for sure!

These pet costumes made my day! So adorable! I’m looking forward to dressing up us and the pup up next year – we’re just kind of laying low this year. Making pumpkin dark chocolate chip cookies, drinking apple cider, and watching Halloween movies! We were invited to a party, but just didn’t feel right about it. Looking forward to our cozy night in though. Happy Halloween, and thanks for spreading the cheer!

  2. Haha, I enjoyed it so much! Love all the photos here 😀 I might have to dress up my dogs for Christmas. And congrats on wrapping up your blogtober! You did a good job here xxx

  3. oh my lord, the cuteness!! I love them all. This year my cat was a wizard, although the hat was a witch hat lol I love seeing pet costumes at Halloween. Hope you had a lovely Halloween.

  4. Such adorable costumes! I was very tempted to put my dogs into one of those spidery outfits but I was 100% sure they’d hate me for it haha!

    1. Try working your dogs up to it. Start with simple accessories for a very short period of time and slowly work up to something larger or more complex. There was a time that mine would have no interest in wearing anything. Now, it’s the opposite – Indy took off with his mask on and we wound up chasing him around the back yard (he thought it was a game) to get it back lol

    1. I was shocked the first time that I was dressing up the cats – they tolerated it MUCH better than I thought they would. That being said, there is a lot of ‘know when to stop’ to avoid pushing them too far lol Anyone who knows cats knows that if they don’t want to wear something, they aren’t wearing it lol

  5. I was busy with my little ones for Halloween and I didn’t get to see your post until now. So cute! I love the costumes. Next year I am dressing my kitty up and sending a pic to you lol.

  6. Absolutely adorable and pretty funny too! I’m also thinking about trying a costume on our dog after seeing this.

    1. It’s such a fun way to celebrate – I really enjoyed doing our Halloween photo sessions this year (especially with most of our usual plans cancelled).

  7. Your furry friends look sooo adorable! ♥ I really, really love their costumes! But what was your costume? 😀
Yeah, Halloween this year was different and that’s why I decided to organize a small Halloween party in a nursing home. I took with me my dog and we all had funny and scary costumes (also my dog, haha).
In this dark (Covid) time it’s such a pleasure to make seniors laugh and enjoy the evening!
Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos!

    1. I kept it pretty simple this year, sporting Malifacent style horns, and Halloween-themed leggings with a plain shirt. We didn’t go anywhere, just stayed home to hand out candy, so I didn’t go all out.
Your Halloween plans sound like the perfect way to celebrate the spooky season!
